Bresnan not fazed by bad memories

Bresnan not fazed by bad memories
Tim Bresnan is hoping to escape any unwelcome reminders tomorrow of his last one-day international experience against Sri Lanka on his home ground.
England's Yorkshire seamer is back in the fold for his country to face the tourists at Headingley, having returned from injury in Tuesday's opening NatWest Series victory by 110 runs at The Oval.
But it was at this venue, back in 2006 as a 21-year-old in only his fourth international match, that Bresnan 'disappeared' for 29 runs from only two overs with the new ball - and England were trounced by eight wickets to complete a 5-0 series whitewash by the Sri Lankans.
Bresnan now has an Ashes victory in Australia on his CV, and his standing as a 'go-to' all-rounder in all formats was confirmed when he was recalled by England as soon as he regained fitness this summer.
Asked about that baptism against Sri Lanka, he said: "Oh, you're talking about 2006 - thanks for reminding me about that.
"It's just a learning curve. Every international bowler does it, and that was just my time to do it."
Bresnan and England have come a long way since then.
"I've bounced back strongly," he added.
"The first time I was called up that was mentioned again, even though we were playing against different opposition - so it doesn't worry me at all."
Bresnan will have the added comfort of knowing there will be no Sanath Jayasuriya waiting to ambush him either this time.
Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga both bagged big hundreds as Sri Lanka chased 321 for seven, with an astounding 12.3 overs to spare, back in 2006.
But both left-handers are absent, Jayasuriya having retired after a last hurrah at the Oval two days ago and Tharanga currently suspended for failing a World Cup drugs test.
Sri Lanka's interim coach Stuart Law this afternoon reported Mahela Jayawardene will therefore open with captain Tillakaratne Dilshan, with youngster Dinesh Chandimal expected to bat at number three.
