Joaquin joins Malaga for €4million
Ambitious La Liga outfit Malaga's free-spending ways have continued after they announced the signing of former Spain international Joaquin.
Joaquin, who was a star for Spain at the 2002 World Cup at the peak of his powers, has been largely inconsistent in his time at Valencia. When on form, he has rediscovered the form that saw him regarded as one of the best wingers in the world with his explosive pace and skillful dribbling.
However, equally as often did he disappoint with inconsistent form and problems with his weight and fitness.
That does not seem to have deterred Malaga though, who have confirmed that they have forked out €4million to bring La Rosaleda.
The Andalusia-based outfit were recently taken over by Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani, who is determined to follow in the footsteps of the wealthy owners of Chelsea and Manchester City by delivering success through sheer financial investment.
Ex-Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has already been installed as the club's new coach, and he has wasted no time in rebuilding his squad.
Malaga said in a statement on their website: "Malaga and Valencia have reached an agreement for the transfer of Joaquin.
"The two clubs have closed an agreement for the player to become Malaga's seventh signing for next season, after Diego Buonanotte, Martin Demichelis, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Nacho Monreal, Jeremy Toulalan and Joris Mathijsen.
"Joaquin has also reached an agreement with Malaga and in the coming days will sign his contract with the club."
Malaga finished last season in 11th spot in La Liga, three points above the relegation zone, after winning five of their final seven games.
