Liverpool move closer to Adam deal
Reports emanating from England suggest that Liverpool are close to sealing a deal for Blackpool talisman Charlie Adam.
Adam is coming off the back of an outstanding season with the Tangerines, where he put in a series of brilliant performances but ultimately failed to save Blackpool from relegation to the English Championship. The Scotland international was reportedly close to sealing a deal to Anfield in January but the club were preoccupied with other dealings, instead landing attacking duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
Tottenham and Manchester United were both also reportedly keen on the playmaker but it now appears Liverpool are back in the fray and are closest to doing a deal.
The Guardian report that Liverpool are set to open the bidding at £6.5million but Blackpool value Adam at £8m, and will reject the Reds' initial offer with the confidence that the lure of landing the set-piece specialist will prove too great for the Anfield-based side.
Should Liverpool succeed in bringing Adam to Anfield, it will add further cheer to an already optimistic air amongst the Kop, who believe successful things are ahead under manager Kenny Dalglish, who returned to a hero's welcome back in January.
Carroll and Suarez have already shown signs of developing a formidable partnership in attack, while Liverpool have already landed promising youngster Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for a reported £20m.
That, in addition to the fact that Dalglish has successfully blooded a number of talented academy graduates like John Flanagan suggests Liverpool could soon return to the pinnacle of English and European football.
