Netball names WNC team, Matila leads
Netball Fiji has named its final team to the Pacific Series and the World Netball Championship later in the year with veteran defender Matila Waqanidrola given the captaincy role.
Waqanidrola who will be playing in her second WNC this year will be assisted by Seruwaia Vonalagi.
Elenoa Vatureba, Afa Rusivakakula and Makelesi Mulivolo will make their international debut while overseas reps Mere Rabuka and Simone Nalatu make their return for Fiji.Waqanidrola who will be playing in her second WNC this year will be assisted by Seruwaia Vonalagi.
Bernadette Daurewa and New Zealand-based Jacinta Lal were also named but as non-traveling reserves.
“We believe this is the best team that can represent Fiji to the World Netball Championship,” co-coach, Unaisi Rokoura said.
“These girls have worked hard, week in and week out, and I applaud them for their commitment to their training and the sacrifices they have made.”
Fiji will travel to Papua New Guinea in June to defend its Pacific Series title against the host team, Samoa, and Cook Islands.
The 3rd Pacific Netball Series is scheduled for June 6-10 whilst the week-long WNC starts on July 3 in Singapore.
