Aldridge: Torres is past his best
Former Liverpool player John Aldridge fears we may have seen the best of Fernando Torres during his time at Anfield.
The 27-year-old moved to Chelsea from Liverpool for a whopping £50million fee in January. However, he got to the worst possible start to his career at Stamford Bridge, scoring just a single goal in 18 games for the Blues last season.
Many expect the Spaniard to be back firing on all cylinders next season, but Aldridge can't see that happening.
"Everyone seems to be saying he'll be back to his best next season but I can't see it," Aldridge said, according to The Mirror.
"I don't think Torres can get back to what he was at Liverpool two seasons ago. He's lost a yard of pace.
"He'll score goals of course - but not one in every 1.5 games as he did when he first arrived at Liverpool and was tremendous.
"Chelsea fans shouldn't expect him to be like he used to be. It's not going to happen."
Torres' departure from Liverpool last season broke the hearts of the Anfield faithful. But Aldridge reckons there is a sense of relief now.
"I look back now and it was a relief Torres went. He wasn't interested," said the 52-year-old.
"He hasn't played well for a long time now."
