Anderson wants to fill Man United void
Manchester United midfielder Anderson believes he has what it takes to fill the void left by recently-retired playmaker Paul Scholes.
Scholes' departure after a stellar seventeen-year career at Old Trafford has left a gapping hole in the centre of United's midfield, which manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been seemingly trying to address with the pursuit of Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder and Tottenham's Luka Modric.
However, United have gradually pulled out of the race to sign Modric, with Chelsea favourites to sign the Croatian international should Spurs decide to sell him, while Inter have so far rebuffed the Red Devils' advances for Sneijder.
And with Ferguson going on record earlier this week stating it is unlikely United will sign any more players this summer following the arrivals of goalkeeper David de Gea, defender Phil Jones and winger Ashley Young, Anderson believes there is enough talent at the club to fill the void, although he admits doing so would be a monumental task.
"Scholes was one player who I learnt a lot from, he was unbelievable and for me - the best midfielder in the world," Anderson told Sky Sports News.
"Scholes was amazing, a legend, but it [his retirement] means more opportunity, more space for me.
"I think Scholes was very important for the team as he had amazing quality, but I think everyone together can take his position."
While Ferguson has announced his summer spending has now officially ended, United chief executive David Gill has revealed one more addition could yet arrive at Old Trafford.
However, it seems unlikely to be the big-name signing the fans have been craving, with rumours suggesting Roma's Mirko Vucinic and Shakhtar Donetsk's Douglas Costa could make a surprise move over the coming weeks.
