Cal Crutchlow goes under the knife

Cal Crutchlow goes under the knife
Cal Crutchlow has undergone surgery on the broken collarbone he suffered in qualifying for last weekend's British Grand Prix.
The Coventry rider landed heavily on his shoulder after falling as he tipped his Tech 3 Yamaha into a left-hander, breaking his left collarbone in five places and ruling him out of his home grand prix at Silverstone.
Surgery was delayed while the 2009 World Supersport champion was assessed for a neck injury suffered in the crash, but scans at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford showed no damage and he was transferred to Royal Derby Hospital where he had a titanium plate and several screws inserted in to the shoulder by specialist surgeon Dr David Clark.
Crutchlow is the latest rider to suffer a broken collarbone this season with team-mate Colin Edwards and Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa picking up similar injuries.
No decision has yet been taken over whether the Briton will race at the Dutch Grand Prix next weekend but he said: "The operation on my collarbone was a success and the doctors seems really happy with the outcome. But I am still in a lot of pain.
"Unfortunately, the break is a lot worse than the one my team-mate Colin Edwards had in Catalunya and I've got different pain and movement levels. I've spent two days lying on my back with a suspected neck injury, so my shoulder just got swollen.
"I am not very happy that this happened to me in my home race at Silverstone when things were going really well for the weekend. I don't know if I will ride in Assen. We will have to wait and see, but I'll be trying 100% to be there if I can."
Crutchlow currently lies 13th in the championship with 30 points in his first season in the top class.
