Checa looking forward to Brno
Superbike World Championship points leader Carlos Checa is relishing the prospect of going for a first win at Brno this weekend.
The Althea Ducati rider heads to the eighth round of the championship with a 43-point advantage over the Alitalia Aprilia of reigning champion Max Biaggi.Checa's best previous result at the Czech circuit was a second place in 2009, while Biaggi has won in both MotoGP and World Superbikes at Brno.
"I've been on the podium here in SBK and really like the track," said Checa.
"It's one of the most historic circuits of all and I always enjoy riding here.
"Last year we did not have such a great race but that was down to a tyre choice.
"I think we have great potential this year. Of course we have a disadvantage when it comes to power, especially on the uphill and the straight, but I am confident and I think the work we've been doing this year will help us."
Behind Checa and Biaggi, Yamaha's Marco Melandri is also in contention for race wins, although being 66 points behind the points leader means his championship hopes are slim.
Brno will see the return to action of former champion James Toseland, who is still on the comeback trail after missing several races following a serious wrist injury which almost finished his career.
BMW will be without former champion Troy Corser, who is out injured and there will be a new face on the Castrol Honda team. With Jonathan Rea out injured, the Holland-based team have drafted in Alex Lowes to join Ruben Xaus.
