Hercog claims maiden WTA title

Polona Hercog secured her first WTA Tour title with a battling win over unseeded home favourite Johanna Larsson at the Swedish Open.

Slovenian Hercog, seeded eighth in Bastad, broke her opponent three times to seal a 6-4 7-5 result after slogging it out on court for one hour and 46 minutes.
It is the second time Hercog has got the better of Larsson of late, with the 20-year-old beating the Swede in the opening round at Wimbledon.
Hercog lost out to Venus Williams in her only other appearance in a WTA event final in Acapulco last year.
