Man United top Forbes money list

Man United top Forbes money list

According to Forbes, Manchester United are the most valuable sports franchise in the world.
The Red Devils have been valued at  £1.165 billion, an increase from their previous reported valuation at £1.12bn in May.
The assessment of the club's worth encasulated the value of the squad, stadium, income and sponsorship deals garnered, and will be welcome news for the Glazers, who purchased the reigning Barclays Premier League champions for £790m in 2005.
However, these latest figures were also tempered by the fact that the club is still under a debt of around £500million, as a result of the American owners' leverage buyout.
The effect of advertising revenue would have not gone unnoticed either, with United's £80m, four-year shirt sponsorship deal with Aon, and a £300m 13-year tie-up with Nike significantly boosting their bottom line.
La Liga giants Real Madrid were the next highest ranked football club, coming in fifth, with a valuation of £900m.
Despite their trophy drought in recent years, Arsenal still managed to come in seventh on the list with a value of £740m, which will raise further question marks over why manager Arsene Wenger has failed to splash the cash this transfer window as yet.

Winning the 2010-11 UEFA Champions League failed to push Barcelona into the top ranks though, as they came in only 26th in the rankings, with a valuation of  £606million.
Chelsea limped to 46th in the table, while Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich came in 19th, AC Milan 34th, and Juventus 49th.
