Messi: We will reach Copa quarters
Argentina forward Lionel Messi remains confident his side will reach the Copa America last eight despite their poor group form.
Argentina, installed as firm favourites for the tournament along with Brazil, have managed a meagre two points from their matches against unfancied Bolivia and Colombia. They now face a do-or-die clash against Costa Rica on Monday to stay in the running for a place in the knockout stages. Even though Messi put in a man of the match performance against Bolivia, he has copped a fair amount of criticism for failing to take his side to victory thus far.
However, the Barcelona star is optimistic that things will take a turn for the better soon.
In comments reported by Ole, he said: "I am feeling good and looking forward to it. I am confident that the team will qualify. We will progress."
Many have felt that the criticism levelled at Messi has been unfair and the 22-year-old's father recently revealed the amount of pressure his son was under, especially after the booing he and his side received following the goalless draw against Colombia on Wednesday.
"Leo is really down about this," his father, Jorge, told Radio 10.
"He can't understand how this happened. It's the first time they've whistled at him."
It's not just Argentina who're facing the ire of their supporters. Brazil and Uruguay have failed to live up to their pre-tournament billings as well - notching up two draws each thus far.
