Mixed feelings for Brazil after draw
Brazil were left to reflect on a bitter-sweet result after escaping with a 2-2 draw in their Copa America Group B clash against Paraguay.
Brazil had a better outing after their dour goalless draw against Venezuela in their opening outing, but still had to come from 2-1 down to secure a point.Fred's equaliser a minute from time helped Mano Menezes' men gain a second point in the tournament and kept them in contention for a berth in the last-eight.
In comments reported by the tournament's official website after the game, Menezes said it would have been "cruel" had his side lost the game, given that Paraguay had "done little" to deserve all three points.
"We had a game with a lot of pressure to win, we made some mistakes and almost lost," continued the coach.
One of those mistakes was committed by Barcelona right-back Dani Alves, who allowed Cristian Riveros to cross the ball for Nelson Valdez to score the underdogs' second and put them on course for a shock win.
After Fred's strike rescued a point for Brazil, a relieved Alves said: "It was a clear mistake that I made. [But] Paraguay got their first goal when Brazil were at their best."
The Selecao will now face Ecuador who are currently bottom of Group B after their 1-0 loss to Venezuela.
