Thongchai cautious of windy Openrevel
Thongchai Jaidee knows that he has to overcome the blustery conditions at Royal St. George's if he wants to do well at the Open Championship which starts on Thursday.
Thongchai, holder of a record three Asian Tour Order of Merit titles and thirteen wins in Asia, already had a taste of the testing conditions during his practice rounds and hopes that he can overcome the challenges with his resolve to do well this week."A lot will depend on the weather. If the winds continue to blow as strong as it is today [Wednesday], it'll be very tough," said Thongchai.
"It's hard to predict what the weather will be like when the tournament begins but I'll do my best.
"It's not easy especially when the winds blow from all directions and you really have to control your ball well and get them into position. It's important to stay patient and play well under pressure," added the Thai.
The 41-year-old will tee off alongside Mark Calcavecchia of the United States and England's Graeme Storm in his opening two rounds and will bank on his vast global playing experience to put him into contention this week.
"I've played in all-weather conditions from Asia to Europe and have learnt to cope well in different conditions. Hopefully, I can draw on my playing experience to get a good result," said Thongchai.
Thongchai will also be accompanied by his eldest son, Jitit at the year's third Major and if his son's nickname proves true, the Thai believes that it will be a sensational week for him.
"I've nicknamed my son ‘bank' which means lots of money for me. Maybe it could also mean going to the bank to deposit all my winnings at the end of the week too," laughed Thongchai.
