Vinci, Errani progress in Palermo

Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani delighted their home fans at the Palermo International by safely moving through to the second round on the second day of competition.

Second seed Vinci needed one hour and 25 minutes to repel Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva 6-2 7-5 while the third-seeded Errani was a 6-1 6-3 winner over Russia's Regina Kulikova.
Fourth seed Klara Zakopalova, fifth seed Anabel Medina Garrigues and seventh seed Polona Hercog, who claimed her first WTA Tour title in Bastad last week, also advanced.
There were also wins for eighth seed Petra Cetkovska, Irina-Camelia Begu, Mathilde Johansson and Ani Mijacika.
