China made it two clean sweeps of Olympic table
tennis gold medals in a row as Ma Long, Zhang Jike and Wang Hao eased
past South Korea in the men's team event final.
Profiting from being on home soil in Beijing four years ago, the Asian powerhouse won every top prize on offer. That has proved to not just be a flash in the pan following more domination at the London 2012 Games.
Indeed, China has achieved a maximum haul of four golds and two silvers following the efforts of their men on Wednesday.
South Korea's trio of Ryu Seung-min, Joo Sae-hyuk and Oh Sang-eun had no answer to their opponents and fell to a comprehensive 3-0 defeat.
The victory followed up the team success of China's women on Tuesday as well as the individual golds claimed by Zhang and Li Xiaoxia.
Germany, meanwhile, took the bronze medal as their trio of Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Bastian Steger beat Hong Kong 3-1 earlier in the day.
Ma, who was not in the singles due to the selections being made too early and the fact nations can only include two representatives, got China off to the perfect start.
Many feel Ma may have edged teammate Zhang in the singles, and he gave further credence to those suggestions by cruising past Athens 2004 singles champion Ryu.
Showing a remarkable ability to turn defence into attack, he simply had too much class and took match one 3-1 (11-6, 11-6, 6-11, 11-4).
The clash between Zhang and Joo was decidedly closer, though the South Korean's defensive style eventually proved unsuccessful.
In a match of long rallies, many points saw Zhang deliver a series of forehand smashes and loops that his opponent tried to chop back.
More often than not, however, they ended with the world number one coming out on top, epitomised by him sealing the encounter 3-1 (11-9, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8).
Zhang and Wang, opponents in the singles final, joined forces in the doubles - and duly delivered another gold medal for China.
The duo were thoroughly dominant against Oh and Ryu, completing a 3-0 triumph for China in fine style.
