Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic was happy to
have made a return to first-team action against Valerenga on Sunday
after nearly eight months out due to injury.
The
Serbian missed the majority of the previous campaign after suffering a
knee injury in the fixture against Basel in December 2011. His
rehabilitation was long and slow but he managed to recuperate in time
for the friendly match against the Norwegian side.Vidic saw his side fail to register a win in Norway but feels that United can take positives from the match ahead of their high-profile friendly against Barcelona on Wednesday night.
"I felt well. After eight months without a game it's obvious that you have to get used to your positioning, and still fitness-wise it's not as hopefully it will be in a few weeks, but I'm pleased," he told MUTV.
"My knee felt well, I felt well and hopefully the next game will be better.
"Obviously it [the friendly against Valerenga] was the first appearance for a few players, obviously myself as well. It was a good test. Obviously the result was not as we expected but still we had chances we didn't score. I think it was a good game and a really good test for us.
"It [Barcelona] will be a tough game, but obviously it will be a good test for us. We need those games before the league starts. We have to know it's a friendly game and it doesn't count for the trophies and points."
Vidic played 60 minutes in the game and the Serbian international will likely partner Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence restoring the title-winning defensive partnership of the 2010/11 season.
