Josh Beckett allowed just one hit as he shut out the Tampa Bay Rays to help the Boston Red Sox earn a 3-0 American League victory.
Beckett claimed six strikeouts, while Adrian Gonzalez hammered a three-run homer in the seventh inning.
Mark Teixeira made it 21 homers for the season with hits in the first and sixth innings as the New York Yankees crushed the Texas Rangers 12-4.
Eduardo Nunez also blasted a homer for the Yankees.
Ricky Romero yielded just three hits in eight strong innings as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-1.
The Cleveland Indians responded to Fausto Carmona allowing three runs in the first by battling back to win 6-4 against the Detroit Tigers, Orlando Cabrera with an RBI double in the fifth.
Carl Pavano recorded his 16th career complete game, throwing 96 pitches to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 4-1 success over the Chicago White Sox.
The Seattle Mariners were 3-1 winners over the Los Angeles Angels, while the Oakland Athletics edged out the Kansas City Royals 2-1.
In the National League, Livan Hernandez held the St Louis Cardinals to three hits in a complete game as the Washington Nationals claimed a 10-0 win.
Michael Morse also starred for the Nationals by smashing two homers.
The Philadelphia Phillies won both matches of their double header against the Florida Marlins.
The Phillies produced a six-run third inning on the way to an 8-1 win in the first game before Carlos Ruiz sealed a 5-4 victory in the 10th inning of the second.
Scott Rolen had two doubles and three RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2.
Jhoulys Chacin struck out seven in the Colorado Rockies' 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres.
Pinch-hitters Xavier Paul and Garrett Jones helped the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 7-3 victory over the Houston Astros.
Elsewhere, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed a 9-5 win over the Chicago Cubs, the San Francisco Giants beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-2 and the New York Mets were 4-0 winners over the Atlanta Braves
