Challenge lies ahead for Robson

Challenge lies ahead for Robson

Laura Robson may be celebrating her greatest Wimbledon performance but has still been forbidden to spend her £20,125 prize money.
Robson gave Maria Sharapova a major scare as the 2004 champion was forced to come from 4-1 down in the first set to prevail 7-6 (7/3) 6-3 in their second-round clash on Court One.
The 17-year-old will now return to the Challenger circuit without dipping into her earnings, confirming that once again dad Andrew will keep hold of the purse strings.
"If anyone wants to talk to my dad about that, that's fine with me," she said.
Robson is willing to put in the hard yards away from the glamour of the senior tour to ensure she can enjoy more days in the Wimbledon spotlight.
"I think it's really easy to play well on a day like this where you've got a big stage, you're playing against a top-10 player, especially someone like Maria," said Robson.
"It's going to be hard going back to the lower tournaments but it's something that you've got to do to earn the right to play on such a big court again."
Sharapova hailed Robson's "great potential", but urged her to remain patient and go back to the second-tier women's circuit to build a bank of experience.
"Laura has great potential. She's got to keep learning and keep playing and keep working hard. For everyone it's a really long road," she said.
British interest in the women's draw ended with Robson's loss and Elena Baltacha's 4-6 6-2 7-5 defeat to China's Peng Shuai.
While disappointed by the outcome, the British number one believes she is continuing to grow as a player and was justifiably pleased with a feisty display.
"From the first point we were going for it and it was a really good match. I had an opportunity, but that's the way it is sometimes," he said.
"There are just so many positives because for me the most exciting thing has been that I've been performing better and better on a week-to-week basis.
"It's disappointing given I was serving at 4-3 up in that final set, but my tennis is up there. I'm getting better all the time.
"I know that I'll go away and I'll earn points elsewhere. I know that I'll keep this going, keep this momentum going.
"In the past, this was a great time for me to pick up points."
