Milan hunting for top-class midfielder
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed signing a world-class midfielder is top of his agenda this summer.
Allegri is coming off the back of leading the Rossoneri to their first Serie A title since 2004, but seems to feel that the current squad could do with some improvements, and has already brought defensive pair Phillipe Mexes and Taye Taiwo to the San Siro.Milan have also been linked to a number of strikers since the transfer window opened due to Antonio Cassano reportedly being unsettled at the club, despite only joining from Sampdoria in January.
However, Allegri has now revealed that he it is midfield where he is looking to immediately reinforce, especially after the departure of Andrea Pirlo to Juventus on a free transfer.
"Having lost Andrea Pirlo, Milan need a player of important technical qualities," Allegri said at an event in Livorno.
Sources in Italy have suggested that Milan are closely monitoring the ongoing transfer saga between Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and his desire to move to Barcelona, but Allegri reveals the Rossoneri have long been aware of the Spanish international's outstanding ability.
"We've not just discovered Fabregas this morning.
"There are two months of the [transfer] market left and [Milan CEO] Adriano Galliani knows perfectly what this side is missing.
"If a player arrives then he will be of important value and will certainly be at Milan's level."
However, Allegri's comments have been contradicted by Galliani, who has dismissed a possible move for Fabregas.
"Fabregas is not even a dream because we have never thought about him," Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.
"There is zero possibility of seeing him at Milan.
Another player rumoured to be on Milan's radar is Napoli's Slovakian international Marek Hamsik, but he too has been dismissed by Galliani as a possible arrival.
"Hamsik is a player of Napoli and we have never been interested."
With the Milan CEO dismissing prospective bids for both players, it now seems increasingly likely that Milan are after Santos midfielder Ganso, who on Friday revealed he harbours dreams of playing for the Rossoneri.
The Brazilian international has won back-to-back Brazilian Campeonata Paulista titles, and is fresh off the back of a Copa Libertadores victory as well, where Santos beat Penarol 2-1 in a heated final marred by a brawl after the final whistle.
