Nationals win tarnished

MLB: Nationals win tarnished
The Washington Nationals won their 11th game in 12 tonight - but lost manager Jim Riggleman, who resigned minutes after the game over a contract dispute.
Riggleman was unhappy general manager Mike Rizzo was not prepared to discuss extending his year-by-year contract and his sudden departure took the gloss off a dramatic last-play victory.
After Washington's starting pitcher Jason Marquis and opposite number Michael Pineda recorded eight and seven scoreless innings respectively, Laynce Nix's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Danny Espinosa for the only run.
Tim Lincecum struck out 12 batters in a seven-innings shut-out as the San Francisco Giants beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1. Miguel Tejada's groundout scored Pablo Sandoval and Cody Ross saw Aubrey Huff home for the winning run.
The St Louis Cardinals hammered the Philadelphia Phillies 12-2, Lance Berkman's three-run homer the highlight as pitcher Chris Carpenter struck out seven in as many innings and allowed just one run.
There were home runs for Miguel Montero and Juan Miranda as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3, while the New York Mets beat the Oakland Athletics 4-1 as Jose Reyes batted in two runs.
