Wootton looking to make Open

Oxford's Adam Wootton started the Open final qualifying event with a sparkling five under par 63 at Rye.

Wootton eagled the first, turned in 30 and was six under before his only bogey came at the short 14th.
There could be no relaxing, however. Only three of the 72 players at each of the four courses go through to Sandwich after the second round.
Cornwall's James Ruth was the early leader at Littlestone with a two under 69, Simon Edwards from Windermere in the Lake District shot a four under 68 to set the pace at Prince's and a bogey-free six under 66 from North Middlesex's Andrew Johnston at Royal Cinque Ports put him three in front like Wootton.
