Dimitrov eases through in Newport
Second seed Grigor Dimitrov swept past Brian Dabul 6-2 6-4 in the first round of Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport, Rhode Island on Monday.
The Bulgarian broke three times, and saved the three break points he faced, to claim victory in just over an hour.
Home favourite and fifth seed Alex Bogomolov Jr came from a set down to progress, seeing off Germany's Mischa Zverev 4-6 6-3 6-1.
Sixth-seeded Belgian Olivier Rochus was also taken to three sets by Australian Greg Jones before triumphing 6-4 3-6 6-3.
Elsewhere, American Donald Young swept past Chile's Paul Capdeville 6-2 6-1, Matthias Bachinger edged out fellow German Dustin Brown 7-6 (9/7) 6-7 (5/7) 6-1 and Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans was a 6-4 6-2 winner over another German, Denis Gremelmayr.
