Safarova stunned at Swedish Open
Third seed Lucie Safarova was the biggest casualty on the opening day of the Swedish Open as the 24-year-old Czech fell 6-4 6-3 to Russia's Vesna Dolonts.
The world number 103 broke five times on her way to victory in one hour 16 minutes.The other seeds in action made it safely through to the second round with Lourdes Dominguez Lino defeating home wild card Ellen Allgurin 6-3 6-4 and seventh seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova beating Hilda Melander 6-2 6-3.
Aravane Rezai, who was beaten in the first round of Wimbledon by Serena Williams, bounced back from that defeat with a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win over Akgul Amanmuradova.
There were also wins for Johanna Larsson and Anastasyia Yakimova, the former beating Alla Kudryavtseva 6-3 6-1 and the latter came from a set down to see off Jill Craybas 2-6 7-6 (7/5) 6-1.
