Ladies seeds fall in Bad Gastein
Seeds Lucie Hradecka and Iveta Benesova were both knocked out in a surprise opening day of the Gastein Ladies tournament in Bad Gastein.
Third seed Hradecka was defeated 7-5 6-3 by Czech compatriot Sandra Zahlavova, who needed 91 minutes to wrap up victory, converting five of 13 break point chances.Another Czech, fourth seed Iveta Benesova, was trailing 7-5 3-2 to local wildcard Nikola Hofmanova - ranked 317 in the world - when she was forced to withdraw with a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Italy's Filippo Volandri was the only first-round winner on the opening day of the Swedish Open in Bastad. Volandri led 7-5 5-5 when Spanish opponent Tommy Robredo retired with a thigh injury.
