Williams gets shaky verdict

Boxing: Williams gets shaky verdict

Paul Williams recorded a controversial 12-round majority decision against Erislandy Lara in a junior middleweight bout in Atlantic City.
Williams looked shaky throughout the fight as Lara landed numerous straight left hands and busted him up
But when it came to the scorecards judge Al Bennett had it 114-114 while Hilton Whitaker (115-114) and Don Givens (116-114) gave the fight to Williams.
It left the crowd of just over 2,000 spectators booing the decision.
Jhonny Gonzalez made a first defence of his WBC featherweight title an easy one as he notched a fourth-round knockout against Tomas Villa while Rico Ramos knocked out Akifumi Shimoda in the seventh round of their WBA super-bantamweight contest.
