Rooney salutes new United era

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says he has been excited by the club's influx of new players.
The England international admits that although he was saddened to see the likes of Paul Scholes, Edwin van der Sar, Wes Brown and John O'Shea leave the club, he is also looking forward to the dawning of a new era at Old Trafford.
United are about to begin a three-week pre-season tour of America with fresh faces including new goalkeeper David De Gea, defender Phil Jones and midfielder Ashley Young.
"It's obviously sad to lose all those players from the dressing room," Rooney was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
"On the other hand, it's exciting having new players coming in.
"You want to see how the new players get on in training and in games so it's certainly exciting as well.
"Brown and O'Shea are ambitious footballers and want to play every week, so I understand why they have left but I'm sad to lose them as players and friends as well.
"It's certainly going to be a loss for us but they'll be excited to start a new life at Sunderland."
United have confirmed that midfielder Darren Fletcher will miss the club's US tour of Boston, Seattle, Chicago, New York and Washington in order to work on a fitness programme.
The Scot missed most of last season because of a virus and is fighting to be fit for the start of the new Barclays Premier League season.
