Sangakkara awaits stern reaction
Reports that his public criticism of Sri Lanka Cricket is to be investigated did not affect Kumara Sangakkara's preparations as he went about his business as usual.
Sangakkara's references to a "mad power struggle" and lost "accountability and transparency", during his MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lord's two days ago, have not been well received in his home country. The wicketkeeper-batsman was known to be reticent initially about taking up the prestigious invitation to give the annual address to cricket's great and good because the date fell in the middle of Sri Lanka's one-day international series against England.
He did so, however, and took the opportunity to call for an end to the problems which only last week led to the sacking of the entire SLC board and nomination of a new interim committee within hours.
Sri Lanka sports minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, was clearly not amused, making it clear that former captain Sangakkara was acting without the relevant authority in speaking specifically about his country's cricket politics.
"He has to get permission. He can't talk about the cricket administration or cricket," said Aluthgamage.
"I have written to the chairman of the cricket board to go into this and get me a report immediately."
The International Cricket Council announced at its annual conference in Hong Kong last week - without naming specific member boards - that each administration must ensure democratic constitution and proper governance.
The world governing body specified a two-year deadline for that process to be completed multilaterally.
