Shock Bad Gastein exit for Goerges

Shock Bad Gastein exit for Goerges

Julia Goerges was the biggest casualty on a day which saw the seeds continue to tumble in the first round of the Nurnberger Gastein Ladies in Bad Gastein.
Top seed Goerges - who won her first WTA Tour title at the event last year - was broken five times as she crashed 6-1 2-6 6-1 to world number 94 Laura Pous-Tio of Spain.
And second seed Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia also made a hasty exit as she was beaten 6-4 6-2 by Sweden's Johanna Larsson, who continued the form that saw her reach the final in Bastad last week.
The upsets did not stop there, with fifth-seeded Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino beaten 6-0 7-6 (7/5) by Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, and seventh seed Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova losing 7-6 (9/7) 6-2 to Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.
Eighth seed Ksenia Pervak of Russia was the only seed to win, beating Alize Cornet 7-6 (7/3) 6-2.
Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva suffered a shock 6-1 6-1 hammering by Slovenian qualifier Nastja Kolar, ranked 309th in the world, and Bulgaria's Dia Evtimova was another qualifier to win through after beating Melanie Klaffner 6-1 6-0.
Among the other winners on the second day were Petra Martic, Kristina Barrois and Kateryna Bondarenko. The latter, though, saw sister Alona crash out 6-3 7-6 (8/6) to Yvonne Meusberger.
There were victories for two further Spanish players, with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez beating Argentina's Paula Ormaechea in successive tie-breaks and Arantxa Parra Santonja a three-set winner over Olga Govortsova.
