The sporting week in Tweets
From Kenny Dalglish to Wayne Rooney. From Caroline Wozniacki to Graeme McDowell. Here's a look at what the sporting glitterati have been saying in 140 characters or less.
By Aldrina ThirunagaranWhat a week for Liverpool! Boss Kenny Dalglish signed a three-year deal days after a spectacular 5-2 win over Fulham.
Cue a flood of Lord of the Rings "Return of the King" references.
The 60-year old manager is also on Twitter @ kennethdalglish and he adds:
"Privileged and honoured to be manager of our club. Thank you for all your support."
Here's what one King had to say to another. LeBron James @KingJames, who has a stake in the club, tweeted:
"@LFC has announced that Manager King Kenny has signed a 3 year deal to manage the club. Happy to hear that and the supporters are as well!!"
And Dalglish's son Paul @pauldalglish unearthed a burning desire from yesteryears:
"Delighted for my Dad. Maybe he can now buy me that BMX he never got me for Xmas when I was 8!"
And where were you when Fulham hosted Liverpool? As an ode to the infamous Michael Jackson statue at Craven Cottage, King Kenny's men didn't stop till they got enough - goals that is. 5-2 the final score and here's what other athletes on Twittersphere thought about it.
One of Liverpool's most famous rivals, Wayne Rooney @WayneRooney, actually hails from the town, but of course he's a former Everton player.
However, his in-laws' are clear over where their loyalties lie:
Wife Coleen Rooney nee McLoughlin @ColeenRoo tweets:
"Liverpool 5!!! All happy in the McLoughlin household tonight then"
Wazza also mentioned that his brother-in-law @anthonymc72 is also on twitter and Anthony McLoughlin added:
"It's looking good, the king has sorted them out, lookout next season lad".
Looks like Rooney didn't want to get involved and asked team-mate Rio Ferdinand @rioferdy5 the score as he tuned in to his favourite British soap.
"@waynerooney what score is Liverpool rizzle. Just watching eastenders"
Family eh? For more family matters, let's head over to Rome.
World number 1 and dei-hard Liverpool fan Caroline Wozniacki @carowozniacki caught the match with dad Piotr and fellow tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka @stanwawrinka:
"Watching the game in the bar of the hotel with my dad and @stanwawrinka! Very happy about the score:) ... Teaching @stanwawrinka a bit about football lol ;)"
When in Rome, try to catch up with Andy Murray's mum Judy @judmoo.
"Many a finely sculpted male bum on display around this ampitheatre. All marble, sadly...."
Ahem...
Royalty a key theme in the Twittersphere and sport this week - Novak Djokovic being hailed as the heir to the throne after extending his unbeaten streak by beating Rafael Nadal at the Madrid Masters .
And Barcelona have been crowned Spanish champions for the third successive season.
Some good-natured ribbing by Michael Owen @themichaelowen in light of the upcoming Champions League final on 28th May between Barca and Manchester United.
"@themichaelowen Barcelona Champions of Spain. Let's hope that's the only trophy they win this season!"
Golfer and United fan Graeme McDowell @Graeme_McDowell may be working on some cheers. This was his ditty when Nemanja Vidic scored against Chelsea.
"@Graeme_McDowell Nemanja.....woooooaaaa.....nemanja........he comes from serbia........he'll f@*kin murder ya!!!!"
A poet in the making.
And finally, golf lost a legend this week - Seve Ballesteros. Sir Nick Faldo @TheSirNickFaldo, who was one of Ballesteros' keen rivals, had a beautiful tribute for the golfer.
"@thesirnickfaldo Sad day. Seve's passing, I would now call him the Cirque du Soleil of golf. The greatest show on earth. I was a real fan"
Rest in Peace Seve.
