England move on the cards for Canales
Real Madrid youngster Sergio Canales is reportedly a loan target to Barclays Premier League outfit Aston Villa.
Villa have recently appointed Alex McLeish as the club's new manager, although his first task at hand was overseeing the departure of key player Ashley Young to Manchester United.
With Villa receiving a significant transfer fee for Young, rumoured to be in the region of £20million, the McLeish is reportedly ready to impose his own identity on the Villans with a few signings of his own.
However, the first player he is reportedly targeting could cost him almost nothing.
According to The Mirror, McLeish has set his sights on Real's out-of-favour midfielder Canales, who has already revealed this summer he would be willing to leave the La Liga giants in search of regular first-team football, whether it be on loan or on a permanent deal.
Canales announced his arrival on the scene two seasons ago with a breakout campaign with Racing Santander, convincing Real to splash out a reported €6m on him.
Whilst he initially arrived amidst much fanfare, a combination of injuries and competition for places has seen Canales relegated to virtually a reserve role, making only fifteen appearances in all competition for Los Blancos last season.
Canales however is still regarded as one of Spain's top talents, and a move to another club and the prospect of regular first-team action could just be the spark to reignite his ailing career.
