MLB: Pena stars in Arizona victory

Wily Mo Pena's solo home run helped the National League West-leading Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-6 MLB win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Friday.
The D-Backs trailed 4-0 after four innings but Pena scored Chris Young in a three-run fourth inning and Stephen Drew reached home plate with the burly designated hitter at bat in the fifth before Pena long ball earned the victory.Casper Wells produced a home run and a double for the beaten Tigers.
The San Francisco Giants scored three runs in the sixth inning - aided by two errors from Cleveland Indians first baseman Carlos Santana - to complete a 4-3 win over the American League Central leaders, while Ubaldo Jimenez pitched the Colorado Rockies to a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees, aided by homers from Jason Giambi and Troy Tulowitzki.
The other National League conference leaders also enjoyed victories, with Eastern pace-setters the Philadelphia Phillies beating the Oakland Athletics 1-0 thanks to Ben Francisco's walk-off single scored off Shane Victorino, and Prince Fielder's two-run double helping the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins.
That saw them move clear in the central division as the St Louis Cardinals were condemned to a 5-4 defeat by Jose Bautista's ninth-inning homer for the Toronto Blue Jays, following a delay for floodlight failure at Busch Stadium.
Elsewhere in the division, Paul Maholm pitched the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 3-1 win over the American League East-leading Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs beat the Kansas City Royals 6-4 with two runs in the ninth.
But the Cincinnati Reds were beaten 5-4 by the Baltimore Orioles after Derrek Lee's 12th-inning homer and the Houston Astros lost 5-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays, whose pitcher James Shields struck out nine in a complete game.
There were two-run homers for Adrian Beltre, Michael Young and Josh Hamilton as the Texas Rangers maintained their lead in the American League West with an 8-1 hammering of the New York Mets. Matt Harrison gave up just one run in 12 innings.
Their nearest challengers the Seattle Mariners also won comfortably, pitcher Felix Hernandez striking out 10 and even weighing in with a hit in a 5-1 success against the Florida Marlins, while the Los Angeles Angels beat city rivals the Dodgers 8-3 with the help of Erick Aybar's two-run homer and Howard Kendrick's solo shot.
Washington interim manager John McLaren, stepping in after Jim Riggleman's shock resignation, was ejected along with left fielder Jerry Hairston Jr but still saw his side beat the Chicago White Sox 9-5 after a four-run 14th inning.
The San Diego Padres beat the Atlanta Braves 11-2 as Tim Stauffer struck out nine and Jesus Guzman hit the only homer in a six-run seventh inning.
