Mourinho wants one more striker at Real
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho believes the club could do with a further addition up forward to bolster their attacking options.
Having finished second behind arch-rivals Barcelona in La Liga last season in his first campaign at the helm of Real, Mourinho is clearly not satisfied with depth of his squad and has already made five additions this summer.Portuguese left-back Fabio Coentrao and Turkish playmaker Nuri Sahin are the biggest names of the arrivals, while utility players Hamit Altintop and Jose Maria Callejon will add to Mourinho's options.
Highly-rated French centre-back Raphael Varane is the last of Real's signings so far, with the La Liga giants having pipped Manchester United to his signature.
And with most of his first-team squad back at training, apart from Argentinean duo Gonzalo Higuain and Angel Di Maria who are on international duty at the Copa America, Mourinho admits that he is relatively pleased with the players at his disposal.
"I'm happy with the squad, especially when you think we're still missing Higuain and Di Maria, who are very important to us," Mourinho said on Real's official website.
"It's fantastic to have more than 90% of the team you want by mid-July because it allows you to work in a different manner."
Mourinho did manage to land one piece of silverware in his debut season at Real - the Copa del Rey - and he admits he is also looking to the future when delving into the transfer market.
"It isn't easy to sign [players] for Real Madrid because we have a very good squad and we earned important results last season.
"We won one title and nothing more. We have decided to improve on, and balance out, the squad without losing track of having to come up with a team for the future.
"Coentrao is 23 years old, one year younger than Callejon. Sahin is even younger and Varane is an eighteen-year-old kid.
"We never want to side-track from building a team for years to come that has large room for improvement and progress.
"We signed men we thought were important to improve on a squad that was already very good - this squad has ten years ahead of it."
Nonetheless, Mourinho admits he would love to add one more striker to the club's ranks, despite having the likes of Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, who are all more than capable of leading the line.
"I, like everyone else, believe we need another striker."
Mourinho's admission that he is targeting another attacker is likely to add further fuel to speculation over the future of Santos forward Neymar, although Real have also been rumoured to be interested in Argentinean duo Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.
